Acadia National Park, Maine, 2016

trees in Acadia National Park, Mount Desert Island, Maine
Of course, even though our vacation started off by "sleeping" in a Maine Turnpike rest area, and then by being woken up by the possibility that our house had been broken in to, AND some rain on our first full day in Maine, we had fun.

We did some exploring, took the dogs to the beach, and had some great seafood (a recurring theme).

See more for pics & video!

Some trip highlights are here after this video:

Highlights:

The weather. Aside from some rain on one day, the weather was perfect.

amazing crab cakes from Thurston's in Bernard, Maine

The food. OMG, if you like sea food, you must like Maine. We love both and we gorged on some amazing seafood. Most notable was a restaurant called Thurston's in Bernard. The crab cakes, the mussels, the lobster... We ate there three nights in a row, and can't wait to go back.

riding up Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park, Mount Desert Island, Maine

The riding. Any time I can ride my bike up a mountain, I'll do it. I'm not a fan of road riding but I made an exception so we could ride up to the top of Cadillac Mountain (and back down).

Riding the carriage roads in Acadia National Park, Mount Desert Island, Maine

The riding (2). The 45-miles of carriage roads were a great way to see the park! Map

great hiking in in Acadia National Park, Mount Desert Island, Maine

The hiking. Getting up high to look down on Maine's rocky coastline is awesome. There were so many great hikes to choose from, but so little time!

Photography. There were so many great things to shoot... Check out the complete photo gallery here.

Dogs on the beach in Acadia National Park, Mount Desert Island, Maine

The dogs. They love car-rides, camping, beaches and life in general, so they're a natural fit for going on vacation with us.

Jean. She's always a highlight!

Anyway, that's all for now, but it's summer in New England, so more is coming...
